Timmy Talks Funko - Gamestop Exclusive K-9 Funko Pop

I know, I know...I'm really bad about posting.

A lot has been going on recently...been super busy with work (going awesomely, as always!) and other fun stuff...

I've been really excited about Doctor Who Wave 2 coming out and I am admittedly behind in trying to catch them all...I've got Regeneration!Ten and Banana!Nine sitting right next to my monitor, waiting for me to feel motivated to make unboxing posts.  So probably in the next year or so. :)

This one is a super special post, with a super special treat!  My wonderful neighborhood GameStop guy, when I went to buy a Pumbaa pop, talked me into preordering K-9.  He came in last week, and I had to unbox him right away!

So first, GameStop has been doing this super ridiculous thing with their shipping boxes.  For a while, GameStop was using little heavy duty cardboard pop protector boxes (which were AWESOME for shipping pops in), however, they wouldn't use any packing material with it.  Now, they have this insert, which is actually super handy if you're buying four or six pops from them -

However, UPS does this thing called "Dimensional Weight," which basically means that they can give different size boxes minimum weight values...so if you're using a 18x18x18 box for a 2 lb shipment, for example...they can rate it as a much higher weight, because it takes up the same amount of space as a heavier package.  They do this because large companies (like GameStop, or Amazon, or whoever) were using ridiculously oversized packages, so this encourages them to use more appropriate packaging.

tl;dr the packaging is awesome for shipping pops (even though the box is stupid for shipping only one), however, GameStop is probably screwing themselves over on shipping costs, so who knows how long this is going to last...

ANYWAY back to the puppy.

The box is nothing exciting, consistent in appearance with the rest of the Doctor Who set, so if you're an in-box collector or a display-with-the-box collector, nothing breaks uniformity here.

And here he is!  With the K-9 pop, it's all about the proportions...he doesn't have the characteristic eyes (or with many Pops, the face shape), but you can tell he fits in with the rest of the collection.

SO NOW ON TO SOME FUN STUFF.  At least, fun for me.  I've been collecting the Character Options figures for about a decade now, and one of my very early ones was K-9.  So obviously, I had to do a comparison post!

It amuses me that they're actually almost exactly the same size!

Back to the K-9 Pop, I feel this one is an essential addition to any Doctor Who collection.  It's unique, and the perfect companion to your Four, Ten, or Sarah Jane. :)  I know I'm always team OOB but I really feel that you do lose a bit keeping this one in box, with all the detail on every side.  However, I do think they did a great job of displaying him in the box, for all of the in-box collectors.

How can you get your K-9 Pop?  He is a GameStop exclusive in the US, and an EB Games exclusive in Canada.  As (almost) always, you can also find him on Popcultcha.  I have not seen him on Forbidden Planet yet, but I think it is likely he will turn up there as well.
